Ann Radcliffe Symposium, Bologna, 25th-26th May, 2026

Between the 24th-27th May, members of the Ann Radcliffe, Then and Now team travelled from all corners of the world for a two day international Radcliffe Symposium at the University of Bologna. Hosted by Professor Serena Baiesi and Professor Diego Saglia, the Symposim was a lively, intimate event in which postgraduates, ECRs, and seasoned professors met to discuss Radcliffe in the Aula Prodi, a stunning building featuring a sixteenth-century fresco. Two days of relaxed and productive discussions were punctuated by plenty of excellent food, a trip to the Anatomical Theatre of the Archiginnasio (a remarkable sixteenth-century University building), and the book launch of Professor Michael Gamer’s wonderful edition of Radcliffe’s The Italian; or, The Confessional of the Black Penitents. The Radcliffe Symposium was a joyful and welcoming meeting of minds and a fantastic opportunity for delegates to present new research and writing on Radcliffe.
